PRC ID

PRC ID is a government-issued identification card issued by the Professional Regulation Commission to licensed professionals in the Philippines. It serves as proof of professional licensure and is widely accepted as a valid primary ID for financial, legal, and real estate transactions.

Key Components

  • Photo identification: Front-facing photograph of the license holder
  • Full name: As registered with the PRC
  • License number: Unique identifier for the professional license
  • Profession: The specific regulated profession (e.g., Real Estate Broker, Engineer, Nurse)
  • Date of issuance and expiration: License validity period
  • Signature: Authenticated signature of the holder
  • Security features: Holograms and machine-readable elements to prevent counterfeiting

How it Works

  1. Pass the board examination: You must first pass the licensure examination administered by the PRC for your chosen profession.
  2. Register with PRC: After passing, submit your application for initial registration along with required documents (Transcript of Records, PSA Birth Certificate, etc.).
  3. Pay the registration fee: Settle the applicable fees for registration and ID issuance.
  4. Biometric capture: Appear at the PRC office for photo and signature capture.
  5. Receive your PRC ID: The card is released upon completion of processing.
  6. Renew periodically: PRC IDs must be renewed every three years, requiring Continuing Professional Development (CPD) units.

Pros & Cons

  • Universally accepted as a primary valid ID by banks, government agencies, and private institutions
  • Serves dual purpose as proof of identity and professional qualification
  • Contains security features that make it difficult to counterfeit
  • Recognized under BSP KYC regulations for financial transactions

Cons:

  • Only available to licensed professionals who passed PRC board examinations
  • Requires renewal every three years with CPD compliance
  • Processing times can vary depending on PRC office workload

Real-World Application

In Philippine real estate transactions, the PRC ID is a critical document for client onboarding and KYC compliance. When a buyer or seller presents a PRC ID during property acquisition, it satisfies the valid government-issued ID requirement enforced by the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) and BSP regulations.

For real estate service practitioners, the PRC ID is mandatory. Under RA 9646 (RESA Law), only PRC-licensed Real Estate Brokers, Appraisers, Consultants, and Salespersons can legally practice. Presenting a valid PRC ID confirms the practitioner's authority to facilitate property sales, manage client profiles, and execute sales documents.

Real estate platforms and brokerage firms typically require clients to submit at least one primary government-issued ID—such as the PRC ID—for identity verification before processing reservation fees or signing contracts to sell.
